Blog Assignment #5

1. In my midterm projects, I know how to present my idea through pictures and express emotion through colours. I make a poster to show the meaning of reality of African children with some photos of their life . What's more, I modulate the picture into black and white colour to show the sadness. I think it is an important and useful way to present my big idea in art making process.

2. For the most challenging learning experience is to make a magazine cover. Because I give myself a big goal to chase, trying to make it like a real magazine with good sense of art. At first, I am confused about the relationship between the colour of words and the colour of picture, How to make harmony between the two? In quiz 1, my work does not satisfy myself. Then I appreciate many magazine covers to find the answers to my questions, then things get better. My final projects are much better and more aesthetic.

In quiz 4, I combinged the poster of movie "Changeling" and movie "salt" to make a new movie poster "Roles". I assumed this movie is about a woman who has double characters in her mind, one is aggressive and fighting while the other is peaceful and timid.In the movie, she may be confused about her two characters in her mind and question herself so many times " WHO AM I..." written as a slogan in this poster.

In midterm projects, I used the elements of angel and fairy to representing for the fantasy of African children to show their dreams about future.

Blog Assignment #4

For my final project, I choose option three to further develop a quiz. I make two fashion magazine covers, one is called "MODE', another one is called "RUNWAY". MODE means fashion in French. I am aimed to make french fashion magazine, filled with romanticly French style. I use "color range" to select only the lips and eyes parts, showing the feeling of mystery and sexy. France is a country with so much imagination and fantasy. Everything about France is deserved to be expected. Fashion of France is one of the most important part of French appealing. Its nobility and luxury has been well known around the world. In my MODE magazine, I use the white background to display the purity of Fashion in France as a form of art not only a kind of industry.
In another magazine called "RUNWAY", I try to show the characteristics of American Fashion publishing industries. They use popular culture, making connection between the culture and Fashion to attract the public. Runway is the place where models show the masterpieces of designers. I use this name to show that this magazine is about the hottest fashion news and information. And I use the photo of Lady Gaga to indicate the "celebrities infulence" used by fashion magazines in America.
Both magazine covers are made to show the difference of the way to portray "fashion" in France and America.

Blog Assignment #3

Lauren Alyssa
His masterpieces are all about the colour, which used to present the meaning and connection between the elements in picture. After appreciating his works, I find the appealing of the colour, which severs as a mammoth concept and tool to explain the interior world of artists. And I was thinking that how can we use colour to present our emotion? How to use colour to beautify our life in art works. Inspired by his work, I think I will focus on the use of colour in my final projects to show the power of colourfulness.

Alexander Mcqueen

I am always stunned by the creativity of Alexander Mcqueen. As a fashion designer, he challenged others' imaginaton and renew others' perspectives about fashion industry, which is no longer a industry about clothes or shoes. It is about art! I love the way he combine the aura of art and fashion together, creating a new era of fashion. I think in my final projects, I will target my topic as "fashion". However, more than that, I will add aesthetic feeling to it, making my project a work of art, not just a photo of clothes products.

Devil eyes

First, I downloaded a picture of eye, using the tool in Photoshop to increase the contrast of it and raze the frecles around his eye.

Then I use "darken" tool to darken the edge of his eye to make it dramatic and atrractive. Then I copied the layer, renamed it. I used "variation" to add yellow and golden color on pramary layer. Then I used eraser to rase the area of eye on the new layer, only making eye golden and leaving the other part of this picture the natual color.

Finally, I went to ""filter-render-lighting effects" to lighten the eye area and darken the edge of picture. After combining the layers, I adjusted the color of the whole picture and finished.

Image Self, Image Heart

    The exhibition "Image Self" shows the artworks of students who tried to portray themselves aestheticaly. During the tour in gallary, I was deeply attractive to the impresive colour and artists' creative thoughts. As far as I am concerned, imaging self is also a process to image heart and soul of the artists. They draw their dreams about themselves on papers and other materials. It can be teared faces or gorgeous portraits with innovative colours. Art is meant for expression, transforming the spiritual states of mind into touchable, tangible forms. I found "freedom" as I appreciated the masterpieces, which are expressed freely and unrestrictedly by students. Art meets no constraints and that's where its charms lie.

Chen man: An Outstanding Chinese Photographer

Chen man, a Chinses photographer borned in Beijing, is familiar with the techniques of Photoshop, proficiently advancing her masterpieces with creative thoughts.

Denotations: In this picture, the model was portrayed as a puppet, braid waving in the air. She holds two pocker cards with a dragonfly pulling her hem up. The background is black.
The model's face looks tempting and seducing.
Connotations: Chen man is inclinded to portray a puppet show, increasing the dramatic feeling to this photo, which is posted on a fashion magazine, aiming to converge pubic's attention to the elegant dress and promote the recognization of this model. Chen man wants to tell a story that the gorgeous puppet becomes to alive when she wears this black dress, sending off her charms. The dramatic characteristic of this photo is able to catch consumers' eyes, making them step into deeper consider about fashion style.

Denotations:In a white and brief background, the model wears a black dress,with a photoshoped small downtown on her head.The wind blows up the string of dress at her shoulder area. Also, the model shows a strong face, with no smile, but intense expression in her eyes.
Connotations:This photo is also posted on a fashion magazine. Chen man aims to show the women's attitude in modern life and urban city. She highlights the "modern" characteristic of this photo by adding a fake downtown on model's head, trying to convince the women observers to adapt a new attitude and catch up with the rapid improvement of technology and ubanization. In 21st, the improvement of China has been more obvious and rapid than ever. Under this historical background, Chen man, a photographer sparkling in fashion field, tried to insert new idea into women's head by portaying new fashion style in her photo.
